AirAsia Baggage Notice
AirAsia guests who have booked their checked baggage and sports equipment fee for 15kg or 35kg before the 31st August 2013 will have their baggage upgraded to 20kg and 40kg respectively for free.

AirAsia has increased the price of checked baggage and the new price is as follow:

AirAsia International New Pre-Booked Baggage Fee
  • PBAB (20 kg) – RM44
  • PBAC (25 kg) – RM50
  • PBAE (35 kg) – RM120

(*or equivalents in foreign currency if departure is outside Malaysia)
There is no more 15kg/35kg checked baggage allowance effective 31 August 2013 as confirmed by AirAsia Sdn. Bhd as stated in a press release which was not fully announced.
Previously, AirAsia also introduced the one hand-carry bag where it states;

  • You are allowed one piece of baggage on board.
  • Size dimensions: Cabin baggage should not exceed 56cm X 36cm X 23cm
  • Weight restriction:  not more than 7kg
  • Said baggage should also fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment in the cabin.
  • The approved cabin baggage must be tagged with a cabin bag tag.

Conclusion

Meanwhile, for a full-service airline, Malaysia Airlines has increased carry-on baggage allowance from 5kg to 7kg, free of charge and checked baggage for Economy Class remains at 30kg and for Business Class 40kg.
You could call this a tactical move from the fully serviced airlines, but the other Malaysian budget airline competitors like Malindo Air and Firefly have yet to make any announcements about their baggage pricing since AirAsia increased the baggage price.
