Live Band Music at Bars in PJ, Selangor
While this list consist of bars and pubs that cater to live music, note that sometimes the bands or singers will change from time to time so it is best to contact the bar, pub or club to confirm the performance.
Edit: April 2015 – Just to update readers here that this article was created a few years ago therefore the bands performing at these places have already been changed. It is highly recommended that you contact the bar or club to find out who is performing the day you want to go.
Another reason for this list is that I personally look for live music from certain bands and always have a problem with finding these musicians as they move around and play daily in different bars and pubs around PJ.
So, here is the listing of the live band performances around Petaling Jaya (PJ) in no order. If you have a recommendation, please feel free to contribute below.
Owned by a radio Deejay, he personally makes sure that Dirty Nelly’s live up to today’s standards. A lot of local celebrities are seen here with the who’s who in PJ. *Free Flow of cocktails for ladies Mon-Sat, 6-8pm. (Check with management)
Cobra Club
One of the early rugby clubs in Petaling Jaya, the Cobra Club House near Astaka PJ has turned into a commercial bar which allows the general public to come here for drinks and live music. Known for their excellent food selections and beer, the outlet caters to rugby fans and mostly middle aged crowd. They have two pool tables and an outdoor area.
Bands perform here on Fridays at Cobra Club (Kelab Cobra) and most of the time, classic rock bands. During rugby season, you will see many fans there as it is one of the biggest rugby clubs in Malaysia. Spacious and interesting decorations. Note: They don’t serve Guinness draft. Only beer.

Online Bar
One of the oldest bars in Petaling Jaya, Online Pub has been around for the last 22 years. Run by brothers Colin and Lawrence, the nostalgic concept with an island bar serves one of the best Guinness on tap in the country.
This would be one of the best places to catch great musicians at their best giving out all kinds of genres. The food here is really something to shout about where local Chinese Hokkian Mee and Wild Boar Curry is very famous and popular here.
If you love classic rock music, head here on Mondays to catch the Sharin Band Trio who is very creative in doing special versions of popular classic rock songs.
Personally, musicians who perform here seem to let loose and play amazing stuff. On other days, there is an awesome mix of rock and commercial musicians and bands performing.
Online Bar has recently opened a second outlet with the same name at SS4 in a quiet residential area. The same food will be served there minus live music. The look and feel? A revamped Online 2.0 and some call this the original Online Bar due to the former kind of crowd.

Football fans will be pleased to know they focus on all the live matches here. The bar is also pretty well decorated to a modern look and feel. Try the Eat All You Can Oysters at RM79.90++.

Ol’Skool Bistro
Been around for a number of years, this Old School Bar in Jalan Gasing is one of the popular places for live band music. Located nearby the old EPF Building by the Federal Highway, this pub caters to 7 nights of live music.
Expect huge crowds on weekends and mostly a mix of young and old. Another well known landmark in PJ will be the Ipoh Chicken Rice shop which is in the same row.

Waikiki Bar
Waikiki has been around for quite some time now and changed hands a few times*. Currently still at the same old location, Waikiki Bar is located at Kelab Syabas in PJ on the first floor just above popular heyday disco – DV8.
Out of Africa Restaurant is the immediate neighbor while Waikiki Pub still caters to many local and foreigners. They offer good live music seven days a week. The bar once opened a second outlet called Waikiki Too in TTDI Plaza but it closed after a year in operations.

Chillout Bistro and Restaurant Subang
Chillout Bistro is located in the Subang Jaya area of PJ. The place offers locals great live music six days a week with some well known musicians and bands.
A very good selection of food complements the nightly entertainment with a dj spinning some great grooves. The restaurant serves desserts, fusion, vegetarian and is also pork-free. Open for lunch as well.

SPARX Bistro PJ
This bar used to be another name and was recently taken over and renamed Sparx Bistro. Located in a quiet area in PJ, the place is a double shoplot which has live music on certain days only.
The band listing needs to be updated as well. Food is taken in from another restaurant next door as they do not have a kitchen.

Ecoba
A new player in the entertainment scene, Ecoba is located at Damansara Perdana in Petaling Jaya. Catering to a younger 20-30 crowd, the place now offers live music on Saturdays. Apart from this, they offer beer and food while a DJ plays music the rest of the week.

Update 2018 – Please note that some of the bars may be closed down, but most of the older bars are still around. It is best to call them up to find out who is playing and on what days.
As there are many genres of music in the city, you will be spoiled for choices. Check out my other article on Live Bands at Bars in Kuala Lumpur or KL.
Some places even offer great beer promotions like 3 for RM50 or Buy 1 Free 1 while on special occasions, you might have to pay cover charges at the door which usually includes one drink.
The great thing about visiting bars and pubs in PJ is some of them offer excellent pub food apart form the great company, drinks or music. Again, it all depends on what your objective of visiting these places are.
