MAS NewCo
Khazanah Nasional Bhd announced on Friday the line-up for the new company which will take over from Malaysian Airlines System Bhd (MAS), pointing out Mueller has more than 25 years of relevant experience.
Mueller is currently the CEO of Aer Lingus Plc (Aer Lingus), the national airline of Ireland where his contract ends on May 1, 2015.
Serving Aer Lingus for the last four-and-half years, Mueller turned around the loss-making airline within a year, in a declining Irish market and tepid European market conditions.
Under the RM6 billion restructure plan, Mueller will be nominated to the board of MAS as a non-executive director and appointed CEO-designate of MAS NewCo, effective Jan 1, 2015. He also has more than 25 years of experience in the airline, logistics and tourism industries.
Conclusion
Finally, under the new leadership, Khazanah has introduced a 12-point turnaround plan for MAS NewCo with the title “Rebuilding A National Icon – The MAS Recovery Plan”. MAS NewCo plans to start operations on July 1 next year.
