That Dam Black Stupa in Vientiane
That Dam Black Stupa in Vientiane is my picture of the week, as I found this to be one of the odd but exciting tourist sites when I was here.
This unique statue is said to be built on the cave of a dormant 7-headed dragon which rose to rescue the Vientiane population in the 1828 war with Thailand.

If you are visiting Vientiane, visit the Stupa, which was initially covered with gold and is one of the most popular in town. There is no ticket price as it is a free attraction.
Several restaurants and wine bars are located around the place and are within walking distance from the main town area. The nickname ‘Black Stupa‘ comes from the Lao word ‘Dam’ pronounced Thut Dham.
