Selangor Photo Carnival
The Selangor Photo Carnival in Klang was promoted as Malaysia’s first outdoor photography carnival, setting the stage for a lively day in one of the town’s most historic settings. Held on Saturday, 4th June 2011, at Jambatan Kota, the event unfolded against the backdrop of one of Klang’s oldest bridges, surrounded by notable heritage landmarks that added depth and character to the experience.
Running from 10:00 am through to 10:00 pm, the full-day carnival offered a packed programme designed to appeal to visitors of all ages. More than 100 photography enthusiasts turned up, along with families and curious visitors who came to soak up the festive atmosphere.
The day’s highlights included the Heritage Walk Photo Hunt, which saw 140 participants exploring Klang’s culturally rich streets and capturing its unique charm through their lenses. The carnival officially opened with speeches by state officials, followed immediately by the photo hunt. Throughout the day, the bridge area buzzed with activity, from a children’s colouring contest and live band performances to various games that kept the crowd engaged.
The event concluded on a high note with a fireworks display, bringing a vibrant and memorable close to a celebration that successfully blended photography, heritage, and community spirit.
For those into portrait and model shooting, there will be a ‘Model Shoot Contest’ while a Kiddy Photography Workshop is set up for the juniors. You can also expect photography accessories and equipment to be displayed and for sale at the many booths there.
Among some of the special features, there will be a Malaysia Book of Records attempt in the ‘Longest Photograph of the Klang Bridge’ where submissions will be accumulated and mounted up.
