This list of what to do in Tanjung Sepat is created for those looking to spend a day trip to this most western part of Selangor bordering the state of Negeri Sembilan.

Tanjung Sepat is a small coastal town near Sepang Gold Coast and offers day-trippers a choice of food and sightseeing.

This Chinese fishing community is also located in the Kuala Langat district, and the other neighbouring towns are Morib and Bagan Lalang.

Things to Do at Tanjung Sepat

Many locals will visit Tanjung Sepat on a day trip, as it is just a short distance from Kuala Lumpur. Among what you can find here are generally food-related, and there are many local restaurants, a mushroom farm and a factory, and a scenic fishing village lifestyle.

There is a local beach nearby, but it is not advisable to have any beach activities here.

Tanjung Sepat is well known for its food as it is a pioneer in selling Seafood Bak Kut Teh, a Chinese herbal soup dish with meat inside. However, they use seafood instead of pork, which is the usual style served.

There are also some Seafood Restaurants around the area, the local coffee and Pau, a steamed-filled bun with a tiny little homegrown factory here.

Please note that the food sold around here is not for Muslims, as it is not Halal due to this village being predominantly Chinese.

1. Food at Tanjung Sepat
As the place is well known for seafood, there are several choices for food lovers here. You will know what I mean when you start exploring the entire village.

Ask the locals if you are unsure; they are accommodating as the place strives with tourists coming here to eat.

For the Bak Kut Teh lovers, two restaurants are located along the main market street in the village town area: YiKee Seafood Bak Kut Teh Restaurant and Ah Hock Seafood Bak Kut Teh Restaurant.

Yi Kee Seafood Bak Kut Teh
This place is popular in the mornings as many outsiders head here for breakfast, so be reassured if you reach there at 8 or 9 in the morning, the place is packed with no tables left to sit at.

They serve the general pork bak kut teh, while the speciality is the seafood bak kut the, which should be noticed when you are here. I recommend going there as early as possible, and about 7.30am is a good time.

The price per person is just under RM10 per person. Just next to this restaurant is a coffee shop that sells Vietnamese Coffee, which is quite decent.

Alternatively, there is another popular Seafood Bak Kut Teh in Tanjung Sepat called Ah Hock Restaurant.

They also serve the same dishes, and some locals prefer this place. It is up to you to try both and see which is preferred. I have yet to try this as my friend was adamant that I try Yikee first because this place is more popular.

2. Mushroom Farm at Tanjung Sepat

If you love all things mushrooms, then this is the place you must visit. The place grows and processes all kinds of mushrooms, including the highly sought-after Ling Zhi Mushroom. To make things interesting, Ganofarm even offers a homestay program here.

Since it was a day trip, this would only work if you truly loved mushrooms. Overall, when you walk in, you will see various mushrooms grown from shelves. Inside, a massive store sells all kinds of packed mushrooms, drinks and many other exciting things.

The project was also started by biochemistry graduate Cheng Poh Guat and her husband, who has specialised in mushroom cultivation since 1987.

They now grow five mushroom types: Ling Zhi, known for its
medicinal value; grey and white oysters; the “black jelly” and “monkey
head”.

The Ganofarm Homestay room package comes with five meals. So, this is your heaven if you are all out for a severe mushroom attack.

32 Air-Conditioned rooms, water heater and television are available so you can expect decent accommodations here.

Ganofarm Homestay Room prices are;
RM215 (weekdays) and RM235 (weekends) for Deluxe
rooms
RM88 (weekdays) and RM108
(weekends) for Superior room
RM78 (weekday) and RM98 (weekends) for Standard rooms

3. Coffee at Tanjung Sepat

Apparently, a place here produces its own coffee called Kwo Zha B Coffee. This outlet is located on one off-road (Lorong 3) from the main street and sells roasted beans full or ground. You can even sample some of the types of blends they offer.

For coffee lovers, this is a must-stop to check it out. I have tried the best coffee from around Southeast Asia, especially from Laos, Vietnam, and Bali; therefore, this is just ordinary if you are a true coffee lover. As mentioned earlier, a shop sells Vietnamese coffee next to Yikee Restaurant.

Another local coffee producer, Joo Far Trading, also does their own Hainanese coffee powder here.

The premises are also operated from a typical old-school house. They also have their own coffee bean tree on display, so ask the owner about this, as he is known to be very friendly.

Overall, he will take you on a full tour of his coffee roasting and grinding process in the house. It’s interesting if you have never seen how it is done.

4. Pao (Bao) at Tanjung Sepat

Of all the unexpected things I encountered was a Hailam Pao (Steamed Bun) factory here in town. Apparently, this family-run business supplies Pao to many outlets in Kuala Lumpur, Klang, and Petaling Jaya.

The factory is tiny, with huge signs you cannot miss, and once you enter the premises, you will notice staff hand-making these paos to be steamed for sale.

Right opposite the miniature factory, there is an old-style coffee shop selling the paos made just across the street.

You can sit there, have a few drinks and enjoy the paos. Tip: Come early to avoid being told that the paos have been sold out, especially after lunch.

5. Seafood Restaurants at Tanjung Sepat
There are also several seafood restaurants towards the coastal side of the village. One is called Ocen
Seafood Restaurant, which is next to the well-known ‘Lovers
Bridge’ here.

Excuse the spelling, but what you assume is correct is just a ‘clever’ way of spelling it or simply a typo error.

Ocean Seafood is famous for its prawns, crabs, fish,  and white shells. The place also serves other meats and vegetables to accompany your
individual taste.

Overall, you get all kinds of seafood here, and this is one of the most well-known places in the area. There have been many mixed reviews, but you have to try it for yourself to pass judgment.

They also serve beer in bottles, so do not expect any draft. Also, please avoid ordering any
Sharks Fin dishes. “The killing stops when the eating stops“.

How To Go To Tanjung Sepat?

To get to Tanjung Sepat, you need to self-drive here. The drive here is pretty simple; you can take the Klang-Banting road or the Sepang Race Circuit way there.

The drive from Kuala Lumpur will take you about an hour and a half to two hours, depending on traffic, and the best time to visit this place is over the weekend.

Use apps like Waze or Google Maps key in Tanjung Sepat and then follow the directions to get here.

No buses from Kuala Lumpur come here, and it is not recommended to take a taxi as it will cost too much.

Best Time To Visit Tanjung Sepat

Make your way there as early as possible as it can get crowded on weekends or school holidays. Most locals will arrive around 9.00 or 10.00 am; if you want a peaceful experience, come as early as possible.

Due to Tanjung Sepat’s popularity, many locals from KL, PJ and even as far as Singapore tend to make their way here to experience the great food, especially on weekends. I recommend visiting Tanjung Sepat on a weekday or on a Saturday morning.

Photography Tip: If you go there on a nice and clear day, head to the coastal part of town and check out the jetty and the locals fishing.

Most locals here are used to photographers, but please always ask for permission before taking pictures. Sometimes, you may even get a fantastic sunset here. Do check out my Sepang Gold Coast Photo.

Conclusion

Well, there you have it: a day trip out of Kuala Lumpur to one of the unique Malaysian-Chinese fishing villages of Tanjung Sepat in Selangor.

It is a simple drive you can explore with your family, friends or loved ones in one day. I have also heard that various bicycle groups load their bikes in their cars and head there.

Once they reach there, they move around on their bicycles to explore the entire village, which I recommend.

That is one of the most incredible things to do on a weekend, where you combine exercise, hobbies, and sightseeing in one trip, so I hope you have the time to explore this place and enjoyed this article on what to do in Tanjung Sepat, Selangor.

Appreciate comments on whether we can buy fresh catch of seafood direct from fishermen or wholesalers? If yes, what time of the day to reach there and exactly where do we locate them. TQVM & all warm regards. TL
