This series of Thaipusam videos at Batu Caves, Malaysia was taken in full HD on the 27th of January 2013.

This was my first time actually visiting Batu Caves for the Thaipusam Festival and a total of 1.6 million devotees and visitors attended this festival in two days.

Thaipusam Videos

As the ceremony begins on the eve of the actual day, many devotees start the ritual just after midnight which spreads over the actual day which is on Sunday.

The devotees start their vows by the river where prayers are done and then start carrying the Kavadi’s which can weigh from 30 to 50 kilograms each.

They make their way barefoot on the road for a few kilometers towards the foot of Batu Caves. From there, they take turns to make their way up to the temple to complete their vow.

Other devotees are seen with hooks on their backs and some hooked to straps where someone holds them back. Watch the video for this amazing festival which is one of the most interesting in the world.

Below are the videos were taken by me in High Definition on Sunday by the main street where the devotees pass by before heading up the stairs to the temple at the top of Batu Caves, Malaysia.

Thaipusam 2013 recorded the most visitors the year with an unofficial whopping number of 1.6 million people.

I would probably try to attend the festival in Penang to see how it is done there, and if you have never seen this up close, I would recommend you try witnessing this in Kuala Lumpur.

Thaipusam is also held at the end of January or early February every year and you can also read about Thaipusam 2015 in my latest article.

This stunning cultural festival is also voted as one of the most fascinating cultural festivals in the world where a myriad of colors and incredible feats are performed throughout the day here in Malaysia.

Conclusion

The Thaipusam Festival is also celebrated in other parts of Malaysia like Penang, Ipoh, and Melaka but it is here in Batu Caves where you will find the biggest celebration.

Till the next year and I hope you enjoyed my Thaipusam 2013 Videos and if you have any comments or questions, please do ask me below.
