Malaysia International Dive Expo Photos
These Malaysia International Dive Expo photos were taken during the event, held from July 5 to 7, 2013, at the PWTC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The diving event also saw many new industry players participate, while international companies and tourism boards participated for the first time.
Known commonly as MIDE, thousands of divers from around Malaysia are seen here, where most are buying or upgrading dive equipment while others are booking dive packages or signing up for dive courses. Several international participants and visitors also attend the dive exhibition, which is touted as the largest in Malaysia.
Below are a series of photos taken during the event held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), presented in no particular order. I usually enjoy walking around and taking pictures of Malaysia’s largest diving event.

MIDE 2013: A Diver’s Playground of Innovation and Inspiration
As an avid diver, MIDE (Malaysia International Dive Expo) is a permanent fixture on my calendar. It’s where I go to keep up with the latest in diving gear, discover new destinations, and connect with the passionate dive community. Every year has something new to offer, and MIDE 2013 truly delivered.
One of the biggest buzzes this year centred around Raja Ampat in Indonesia, a dream destination for many underwater photographers and marine life enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the Philippines continued to rise in popularity with its array of beautiful, lesser-known dive sites that are now more accessible than ever.
Travel itself has become far more affordable, thanks to the expanding network of budget airlines across Southeast Asia. It’s incredible to think how much easier—and cheaper—it is to hop over to a top dive site now compared to ten years ago.
On the gear front, things are evolving too. The traditional bulky BCD jacket is becoming a relic of the past. Taking centre stage at MIDE were sleek backplate-style BCDs from brands like Hollis and OxyCheq. These innovative designs are compact, travel-friendly, and offer better control in the water. OxyCheq’s range stood out not just for function, but also for style—available in a variety of bright, eye-catching colours and different sizes, they make it easy to spot your buddy during a dive.
The Scubaholics Anonymous (Skoobaholik) booth was buzzing with activity as they showcased these BCDs, and it’s no surprise—they were hard to miss and even harder to resist!
Another standout was the Liquivision Dive Computer, which features a colored LCD display. It’s designed with beginners in mind, offering customizable colour-coded indicators for depth and air pressure. The result? A device that’s not only smart but super intuitive underwater.
MIDE 2013 wasn’t just an expo—it was a celebration of how far diving has come and where it’s headed. Whether you’re into cutting-edge tech, dreaming of far-off dive spots, or just love being around fellow ocean enthusiasts, MIDE is the place to be. I’m already looking forward to next year as it’s going to be even better.
Overall, MIDE 2013 was very interesting, and I am sure many divers and would-be divers got what they needed during this diving expo in Malaysia. The event takes place in the first half of the year in Malaysia.
