Thailand Dive Expo 2014 is going on from the 15th to 18th of May at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, and it is well known that in the past years, the scuba diving industry in Thailand has grown significantly, which can be measured by the growing numbers of scuba divers and various diving businesses.

Part of it is the country’s natural environment, specifically the beautiful seas, with rich natural resources in the Andaman Sea or the Gulf of Thailand. These reflect beautiful underwater scenery that continuously attracts thousands of tourists who are scuba diving lovers to Thailand. The other reason is the widespread popularity of scuba diving among the local Thai people.

While the scuba diving industry is growing steadily, and although the number of divers, both Thai and foreigners, has increased, the political turmoil in the country and a severe downturn in global economic conditions during the past few years have negatively affected such growth.

Businessmen and tourists have slowed their diving trips to Thailand and relocated their itineraries to other destinations in Asia and Europe. Notably 2010, when the riots occurred in Thailand, Thailand Dive Expo 2010 (TDEX) was delayed, as it had been held continuously for six years since 2004.

The exhibition needs to be postponed until the situation is more stable. Many operators and foreign divers lack confidence in visiting Thailand, either as tourists or doing business, because they are aware of both their security and Thailand’s economic insecurity.

Therefore, to restore the confidence and support the Thai scuba diving industry to continue growing and to develop Thailand as an international centre of comprehensive scuba diving industry, the N.C.C. Exhibition Organizer, with the support of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, organized “Thailand Dive Expo” (TDEX), which was held during 12-15 May 2011, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

This event is our commitment to re-establish the Thai diving business’s objective as “The Real Diving Hub of Asia.” We expect this event to stimulate the business and return the scuba diving industry in Thailand to its glorious days.

Conclusion
