Rooms at the Woodpecker Lodge in Kuching |
35. Woodpecker Lodge Kuching (2-star)
The Absolute Tribal Restaurant here also presents a unique dining experience in the courtyard and serves authentic local and Thai cuisine.
However, many international reviews show the hotel as dark, dingy rooms, the hotel lacked charisma or a business feel, and the staff were not very helpful.
Very expensive compared to guesthouses just down the road, which was far better value for money. Technically, this place would be the last resort unless the hotel does a massive makeover and renovations.
The rooms can be small for 2 people. Also, double check prices as there have been reports of different pricing over the phone. Another last resort for rooms if needed.
Cosy, quiet place with friendly and helpful staff. Noted as good value for money and is in a great location.
Recommended to anyone who wants to relax for a few days in Kuching and yet near everything. The decor and furniture suit the Sarawak heritage and add character. The bonus is the surprisingly good shower power.

The premises are squeaky clean (rooms, shared toilets); guests feel like they are living with the family in quarters above the coffee shop they ran.
