Borneo Bird Festival 2016
The Borneo Bird Festival 2016 is taking place from 15-17 September and at the Rainforest Discovery Centre in Sandakan, Sabah Borneo and will see birders from all over Malaysia and Southeast Asia attending this prestigious bird festival.
This will also be the 8th Bird Festival since being launched in 2009 where the three day event will see over three thousand people attending the bird event here in Sandakan. This unique bird festival offers not only birders or bird watchers an exciting time, but also for the kids and non-birders who come to the event to learn about this unique hobby. Talks, seminars, discussions, contest and many more activities are available during the event.

What makes the Rainforest Discovery Centre or RDC special is the fact that this place is a natural birding ground where there are ready trails and even a unique steel canopy walk where birds are often sighted.
This year’s BBF2016 also hopes to target more birding teams, especially those from Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Currently, Tourism Malaysia is developing this hobby to make Malaysia a Birding Destination, but to date, many are still awaiting the news on this. In 2015, there was a closed door birding talk among the tourism players and relevant ministries who are involved in this, which was organised by Tourism Malaysia.

The last Borneo Bird Festival 2015 was held at the Kinabalu National Park and this was also the second time the event was held here where the first time was back in 2012. Kinabalu National Park is well known for montane birds and is considered a beautiful place to do birding. It is also Sabah’s national icon where Mount Kinabalu is located.

The Borneo Bird Festival 2016 is also organised by the Sandakan Borneo Bird Club together with the support of the Sabah Tourism Board and also Sabah Forestry Department and is a great platform and event for anyone interested in birding or bird watching.
