Silverlakes Village Outlet in Batu Gajah, Perak

The Silverlakes Village Outlet (SVO) in Batu Gajah is one of Perak’s newest lifestyle attractions, offering visitors a mix of shopping, dining, and leisure in a single lakeside setting. When I first heard about it, the idea sounded promising—especially for those looking to extend their trip beyond the usual Ipoh food trail.

Although the outlet soft-opened earlier, its official launch came later, following several delays. Originally planned before the pandemic, the project was only fully completed around mid-2023, making it a long-awaited addition to Perak’s tourism scene.

As of late 2023, SVO featured around 100 retailers occupying roughly 60% of its total capacity, out of an estimated 160 retail lots. The entire development spans about 300,000 square feet, combining outlet shopping with food and lifestyle experiences. The vision here is clearly ambitious—to position itself as an international-standard outlet mall in Malaysia.

For travellers, this means Batu Gajah and nearby Gopeng are slowly becoming part of a wider tourism circuit, rather than just a quick stop on the way to Ipoh. There were even plans to introduce a hop-on, hop-off route linking these areas, which could make exploring the region much more convenient.

What You’ll Find at Silverlakes Village Outlet

SVO isn’t just about shopping. It tries to blend retail with entertainment and outdoor experiences, creating something closer to a lifestyle destination.

Premium Outlet Shopping

This is the main draw. As with any outlet mall, success really depends on the brands. If it can reach the level of places like Johor Premium Outlets, it would be impressive—but attracting strong tenants is always the real challenge.

Dinosaur Encounter

A family-friendly attraction featuring animatronics, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR). It’s not groundbreaking, but it adds an interactive element, especially for kids.

Karnival Karosel

This is the outdoor amusement section by the lake, featuring rides and small attractions that give the place a bit of a theme-park feel.

Emporio Food Festival

A large food-court concept that brings together a variety of food vendors. The quality here will really determine whether people stay longer or just pass through.

Weekend Bazaar

On weekends, there’s usually a bazaar set up to create more buzz. Occasionally, you might even come across collectors’ items or themed markets.

Boat Rides on the Lake

One of the more unique features here is the lake itself. Visitors can take boat rides during the day or opt for the LED Night Cruise in the evening.

Malaysia’s Longest Floating Bridge

At 180 metres long, this bridge was built as a record-setting feature and adds a nice visual highlight to the area.

Birdwatching Opportunities

If you take a walk around the lake, keep an eye on the trees—especially between September and March. This is when migratory grey herons are known to roost here.

The outlet is relatively easy to reach, whether you’re coming from within Perak or other parts of Peninsular Malaysia.

  • From Ipoh: About 20–30 minutes by car
  • From Kuala Lumpur or Penang: Around a 2-hour drive
  • From Johor: Approximately 5 hours

One convenient feature is the nearby KTM station, located just outside the outlet, making it accessible by train as well.

Final Thoughts

Silverlakes Village Outlet arrived at a time when Perak was actively boosting its tourism offerings, especially in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2024. The concept is solid—combining shopping, attractions, and a scenic lakeside environment—but as with many large-scale developments in Malaysia, execution will determine its long-term success.

Personally, I always feel that projects like this need consistent investment, a strong tenant mix, and good management to truly thrive. Otherwise, they risk falling into the same trap as past attractions that started strong but couldn’t sustain momentum.

That said, SVO still has potential. With the right direction and continued support, it could evolve into a worthwhile stop in Perak’s growing travel circuit—rather than just another place people visit once out of curiosity.
