About Me

Welcome to my About Me Page

This About Me page was edited and revamped in July 2024 to add more information about MalaysiaAsia. Some of you may be wondering who MalaysiaAsia is, and you will find out all you need to know below.

MalaysiaAsia began in 2007 as my personal travel blog — a space where I shared stories, photographs, and experiences from my journeys around Malaysia and beyond. Over the years, it has grown into one of Malaysia’s most trusted travel platforms, built on real-world exploration, honest storytelling, and a deep love for discovering new places.

In 2012, my wife Janice Wong made the bold decision to leave her long-standing career in the tourism industry to join me on this adventure. From that moment on, we became true partners on the road and in business, travelling together across Malaysia, Asia, and the world. What started as a simple blog evolved into a powerful travel media platform, earning multiple awards from tourism boards in recognition of our dedication, passion, and commitment to showcasing destinations with authenticity.

About David Hogan Jr

David Hogan Jr is a seasoned travel professional with more than three decades of experience spanning media production, tourism, and digital storytelling. His career began behind the scenes as an assistant director on television commercials and documentaries, before evolving into his current role as a travel writer, photographer, and videographer. Based in Malaysia, David draws on his deep regional knowledge to lead MalaysiaAsia, a trusted travel platform that showcases Malaysia and Asia through authentic stories and visuals.

His early work in television production, coupled with hands-on experience with Tourism Malaysia, gave David valuable insight into how destinations are marketed and experienced. In 2007, he launched MalaysiaAsia as a personal travel blog, responding to the rapid shift toward online media and changing reading habits. Recognising the growing demand for clear, practical, and honest travel information, David shaped the platform to serve a new generation of digital travellers — a vision that continues to guide MalaysiaAsia today.

Over the years, David has collaborated closely with tourism boards, hotels, resorts, and industry partners on specialised campaigns promoting destinations and travel experiences. With a strong grasp of search engine optimisation (SEO) and audience engagement, he connects brands with highly targeted readers while maintaining authenticity in storytelling. His understanding of both Western and Asian markets allows him to craft content that resonates across cultures.

Beyond his professional work, David is a passionate scuba diver, trekker, hiker, birdwatcher, foodie, and cultural explorer. These personal interests enrich his storytelling and enable him to cover niche tourism sectors with genuine insight and credibility. Whether documenting remote landscapes or vibrant city life, David brings curiosity, experience, and heart to every journey.
