Turyapada Tower in Bali (2026 Update)

Bali is known for its rice terraces, ancient temples, and world-famous surf, but a new landmark is rising in the lush highlands of Bedugul that could redefine how visitors experience the Island of the Gods. The Turyapada Tower, or Kerthi Bali Turyapada Communications Tower, is fast becoming one of Bali’s most talked-about new attractions. With Phase 2 of its construction well underway, the full experience is closer than ever.

What Is the Turyapada Tower?

The Turyapada Tower is a 115-metre steel communications tower built in the village of Desa Pegayaman, Kecamatan Sukasada, Buleleng Regency, perched dramatically at 1,636 metres above sea level. To put that height in perspective, it stands just 6 metres shorter than the iconic Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue at GWK Cultural Park down on the Bukit.

Construction of the tower began on 23 July 2022, when Bali’s Governor Wayan Koster laid the first stone. The first phase of the project cost IDR 418 billion and was built primarily to address telecommunications black zones across Karangasem Regency, Buleleng Regency, and Jembrana Regency. The tower serves as a transmitter for digital television broadcasts, cellular telecommunications, internet, and radio communications.

In August 2025, Bali’s Deputy Governor Nyoman Giri Prasta officially launched the tower’s communication network, confirming that the Turyapada Tower is now a fully functioning telecommunications tower.

The name “Turyapada” itself carries deep meaning — symbolising the relationship between Akasa-Pertiwi and Purusa-Pradana, the spiritual forces considered the source of strength and life. The tower’s form is also an analogy of the Orti and Bale Kul-kul, traditional Balinese communication instruments used in adat ceremonies, religion, arts, and culture.

Bali’s Answer to the Eiffel Tower?

Tourism leaders in Bali have been clear and ambitious in their vision. They want the Turyapada Tower to become as synonymous with Bali as the Eiffel Tower is with France and the Tokyo Tower is with Japan. Governor Koster himself put it plainly: “This is not an ordinary building, but an icon.”

The tower was built by the state-owned contractor PT Hutama Karya with a double structural system, the highest earthquake-resistance coefficient of 1.0 G, and a design life expectancy of at least 500 years. It is also built as a green building, reflecting the relationship between Balinese nature and culture.

Phase 1 Is Open — You Can Visit Now

The Turyapada Tower had its soft opening on 27 December 2024, making it already visitable today, though not all facilities are yet complete. The tower currently opens on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), and visits have proven popular — booking slots fill up months in advance.

Important: Entrance is free during this phase, but you must register and book your visit online in advance at the official Turyapada Tower website. A passport or a valid ID is required on the day of your visit.

Phase 1 highlights you can already experience include the stunning views of the highlands, the glass bridge, the skywalk, and the building’s impressive multi-floor interior.

Phase 2: A World-Class Destination in the Making

The project is now deep into its second phase of construction, with a budget of IDR 270 billion allocated for this stage. Governor Koster personally visited the site to inspect progress and issued firm instructions that quality and schedule must not be compromised.

As of early 2026, Phase 2 is reported to be 45% complete and on schedule. The Governor has set a target for all construction work to be completed by the end of November 2026, followed by a final preparation phase ahead of the official inauguration in December 2026.

Phase 2 includes:

  • A 1.1-kilometre gondola (equipped with Korean technology) connecting the parking area to the tower
  • A gondola terminal and associated infrastructure
  • A parking area with capacity for 200 cars
  • Road access from the ring road shortcut to the tower complex
  • Completion of the planetarium interior
  • Glamping zone and camping areas
  • Communal spaces, UMKM (small business) hubs, restaurants, and cafés
  • Exhibition spaces and a Telecommunications Museum
  • Landscaped gardens using local flowers and plant species
  • Pura (Balinese temple) within the complex

Governor Koster has been emphatic about the use of high-quality materials throughout and the importance of using local flora to decorate the surrounding landscape, saying, “We must consistently use quality materials and design them well so that this tower will be far superior to any other in the world.”

He also confirmed that only electric vehicles will be permitted within the tower complex, with electric shuttle services available as an alternative to the gondola.

What Will the Full Experience Look Like?

Once fully completed, a visit to Turyapada Tower and Park will be a multi-experience destination blending technology, culture, and nature. Here’s what visitors can look forward to:

Inside the Tower:

  • Planetarium — an immersive astronomy experience
  • Skywalk — stunning open-air elevated views across Bali’s highlands
  • 360-degree revolving restaurant — dine with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape
  • Glass bridge observation platform
  • Museum of Balinese Cultural Excellence — showcasing the island’s communication traditions through the ages
  • Telecommunications Museum
  • Educational laboratories and exhibition spaces

Outside the Tower:

  • Aerial gondola ride through 1.1 km of breathtaking highland scenery
  • Flower and fruit gardens planted with local Balinese species
  • Children’s playgrounds
  • Flying fox and other outbound adventure activities
  • Glamping resort for overnight stays in the highlands
  • Small business bazaars, cafés, and restaurants

Why Turyapada Tower Matters for North Bali

The Turyapada Tower sits in Bedugul, one of the greenest and best-preserved areas of Bali. Both the Bedugul Highlands and Buleleng Regency are priority areas for the Bali Tourism Office, which is actively working to spread tourism more evenly across the island, away from the heavily concentrated southern coast.

From the tower at height, visitors can enjoy 360-degree panoramas of the sea, forested hills, and the twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan, as well as Lake Beratan. It is a visual experience that is genuinely hard to find anywhere else on the island.

The Governor also confirmed plans for improved road access and public transport connections, including electric shuttle services for tourists arriving by tour bus, who will park near the Landung Banner Statue in Wanagiri Village before being transported to the gondola terminal.

Combining Turyapada Tower with a Bedugul Day Trip

A visit to Turyapada Tower is best enjoyed as part of a day trip through the Bedugul Highlands. In a single day, you can pair the tower with some of Bali’s most iconic central highland attractions:

  • Ulun Danu Beratan Temple — the famous lake temple, one of Bali’s most photographed
  • Bali Botanical Garden (Kebun Raya Bali) — a vast highland garden of incredible variety
  • Blooms Garden — a colourful floral attraction popular with local and regional visitors
  • Munduk Waterfalls — for those heading further north into Buleleng
  • Lovina Beach — the gateway to Bali’s relaxed, dolphin-watching north coast
