The Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, has ordered a revision of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) promotional video to ensure that it effectively highlights the attractions of each state in Malaysia.
The original video, which sparked some controversy on social media, will be redone with a more detailed approach, dividing the promotion into different zones to showcase state-specific destinations, products, and cultural highlights.
Tiong expressed dissatisfaction with the 41-second video shown to him, as it failed to delineate which attractions belonged to which states. He stressed the importance of adequately showcasing Malaysia’s diverse tourism offerings and requested state governments to provide information on their tourism products, destinations, and even local signature dishes.
The original 41-second video, which was shared during the launch of the VM2026 logo, mascot, theme song, and aircraft design, did not include specific elements such as mosque architecture, which will be featured in the upcoming revised video. Tiong emphasized that the original video was a brief promotional montage and not the final promotional material for VM2026.
Additionally, Tiong urged the public not to politicize the matter or frame it as a religious or racial issue, emphasizing that the government welcomes constructive criticism. He also reminded tourism agencies of their duty to ensure the safety of tourists, mainly through measures such as providing two bus drivers for long journeys and ensuring drivers are free of drugs and adhere to working hour limits.
