Hiking Trekking Permits for Selangor Forests
Starting April 1, 2025, all outdoor enthusiasts planning to hike or engage in recreational activities within Selangor’s permanent forest reserves must apply for their permits online. The Selangor Forestry Department recently announced that all applications must go through the Selangor Forestry e-Permit System (SeForest).
The shift to an online system aims to streamline the application process, ensure better management of forest reserves, and enhance visitor compliance with regulations. The announcement on the department’s official website on March 20 also includes a flowchart detailing how users can navigate the e-Permit system.

How to Apply for the e-Permit? According to the flowchart, visitors must submit their permit applications at least 48 hours before their visit. Once approval is granted, payments should be completed within 24 hours to confirm the permit.
Failure to obtain a permit before entering a permanent forest reserve is a serious offence under Section 47(1) of the National Forestry Act 1984. Violators risk facing fines of up to RM30,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.
Why the Online Permit System? The department’s move to an online system reflects its efforts to modernize permit applications, making the process more accessible while improving conservation efforts. Digital applications will enable better visitor tracking and help authorities manage the sustainability of Selangor’s rich forest ecosystems.

Conclusion
With more hikers and nature lovers exploring Selangor’s lush landscapes, adhering to these new regulations is crucial. Whether you are an experienced trekker or a weekend explorer, planning and securing your permit through SeForest will ensure a smooth and legal adventure in the state’s beautiful forest reserves.
