Things to do at The Andaman Islands
Since AirAsia launched direct flights here in November 2024, here is a list of things to do in the Andaman Islands, which does not include Nicobar. We will explain why we have not included that other island later in this article.
Things to do at The Andaman Islands
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, also known as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, are a stunning archipelago in the Bay of Bengal. They are known for their pristine beaches, lush forests, and rich marine biodiversity, which is less visited by international tourists.
You can find over 30 islands, including Havelock (now Swaraj Dweep), Neil, and North Andaman. But getting to most other islands, including Nicobar, is no easy task, as the only way is by boat or ferry.
However, since November 2024, AirAsia has made history by being the first international airline to fly via Kuala Lumpur, opening up a direct route into Andaman Island. This is particularly fascinating as most people, including me, have never been here. But this is about to change.
Among the things to do on Andaman Island, below is a rough summary of nature, culture, history and food combined into one main island.
- Natural Landscapes: Stunning beaches and islands with white sand and clear waters are ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and scuba diving.
- Wildlife & Marine Life: The surrounding waters teem with colourful coral reefs and diverse marine species, making it a popular spot for water sports.
- Cultural Heritage: The Cellular Jail in Port Blair is a historic site that showcases the struggle for Indian independence.
- Adventures: Various activities, including trekking, birdwatching, and exploring uninhabited islands.
- Local Cuisine: The islands feature delicious seafood and regional dishes, which some claim are the freshest they have tried.
Scuba diving and snorkelling are probably some of the most popular activities on Andaman Island. Due to fewer visitors, the reefs and corals are in somewhat pristine condition.

Andaman Weather Conditions
Just like in any other country, you need to know when the monsoon or rainy season is to try and avoid it so that it does not affect your vacation. However, the weather can change anytime, depending on the current world situation.
Monsoon Season (August)
- Heavy Rainfall:
- August is the peak of the monsoon season in the Andaman Islands. This season brings heavy rainfall and high humidity, which can lead to waterlogging and limit outdoor activities.
- Rough Seas:
- In August, the seas can be rough and unpredictable, affecting ferry services between the islands. Due to safety concerns, ferry cancellations or delays are expected.
-
Flight Disruptions:
- Adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds, can cause flight cancellations or delays. Flights to Port Blair were sometimes diverted or rescheduled due to landing challenges. Therefore, you should have a backup plan if you travel in August.
