Berjaya Resort Pulau Redang Island Review
This Berjaya Resort at Pulau Redang review is done purely out of my curiosity when I was on a work trip to this part of Malaysia. And to my surprise, this resort is also one of the most beautiful ones I have visited around here.
You should also know, locals would call the island Pulau Redang or just Redang and the island is the largest of all the islands on the east coast and located strategically next to Lang Tengah and the famous Perhentian Islands.

The Berjaya Beach Resort is really secluded and located at Teluk Dalam (Deep Bay) and is out of walking distance to any other resort, therefore, privacy is guaranteed here.
This is one of the main factors that families and couples like coming here, mainly due to the privacy they get at this beach resort.
Once you make your way here via ferry, like I did, the ferry will stop you just outside the main beach area which is outside Pasir Panjang (Long Beach).
From there, smaller boats will come to pick you up and send you to whichever resort you book. The boatmen will ask you where you are headed and in the sea, you will be transferred to the allocated boats. together with all your luggage.
There is a small fee to pay these smaller shuttle boats. But the Berjaya has their own boat to welcome guest so check with your tour operator on this.
On arrival at the Berjaya Beach Resort, you will be dropped off at the plastic jetty which is floating on the water. Not to worry as this jetty is quite sturdy.
Walking in, you will see the beautiful colours of the turquoise water and the white sand beach of the Berjaya Resort. You will probably be thinking ‘Ahh… is this paradise?‘

Not forgetting the beautiful swaying coconut trees that are over 50 feet high, you have come to one of the exclusive private resorts in the East Coast of Malaysia, minus the hundreds of people cramming the beaches.
Judging from the pictures I have taken, one might think I have added some colour to them, but I have not.
What you see is exactly what I and my trusty Canon camera saw. The skies were absolutely beautiful, so was the sand and sea.
At the Berjaya Resort, you will be seeing a lot of families who choose this resort as the main holiday destination.
Now I understand why people talk about this resort. For the privacy, exclusivity and the sheer beauty of the overall island getaway.
I cannot help thinking of how blue the skies were when I was there. The beach was perfect with proper holiday goers and no disturbances. Think it of as an isolated beach holiday.
Well, you can hire a boat and visit Long Beach if you choose to, but after coming here, I just wanted to stay here and be away from all that commercialism.
As for things to do here, they have a ton of activities available at Berjaya Resorts, so check with the resort on what you want to do.
The resort also has a 5-star dive centre who handles diving trips or even getting your diving certificate for armatures or advanced courses.
Dive Sites At Redang Island;
- Big Mount
- Northern & Southern Run
- Pulau Paku Kecil & Besar
- Boulder Dash
- Black Coral
- Anak Chatek
- Batu Mak Chantek
- Batu Che Isa
- Pulau Kerangga Kecil & Besar
So if you are a scuba diver, do look at some of the interesting diving packages being offered. The dive shop also does multiple levels of scuba diving.
The beach is excellent as they have lovely beach huts with deck chairs and it is a private beach. So you can have your Mai Tai sent to you while you lie back, relax and read a good book.
One thing I must mention is that the Berjaya Resort Redang is built right at the end of a local Malay village so you will see some local children fishing or just playing around the beach and jetty area.
I saw this local Malay boy who was fishing at the plastic jetty and he had caught a Todak (Hound Needlefish) who likes to swim around jetties looking for smaller fish.
You may have seen them when you walk the local jetties. It was quite an average size if you ask me. I usually see the much smaller ones which are about 6 to 8 inches long.
The Beach Restaurant at the resort looks very nice even taught I did not try it. It is located in a separate building away from the main resort. But it is not too far too.
The resort is actually quite huge with a lot of areas to explore, and if you are bored of the main resort area by day 2, you can just go out the back and explore the local village (Kampung Ulu Dalam).
There is a local restaurant run by some local Malay people just when you exit the resort. They serve local basic Malay style dishes which you can try as an alternative to hotel food.
Overall, I find the resort very pro-family, meaning if you have a small or large family and would like a nice quiet holiday, the Berjaya Redang Resort would be the perfect place for you.
While here, I also saw several romantic couples who were here, possibly for the honeymoon or just a nice and quiet getaway from the hectic city.

Berjaya Redang Spa
For the Spa Lovers, there is the Berjaya Ayura Spa located at Teluk Siang which is south of the island and is on a cliff 140 feet above sea level.
This is one fantastic place to get pampered, too bad I did not try it and I also visited the spa without my camera on that day.
How to go to Berjaya Redang Resort?
Finally, there are two basic ways to get to Redang Island. One of them is Flying with Berjaya Air or the other which is to self-drive to Terengganu and taking a ferry to Redang Island.
Flights to Redang Island – *Update: Berjaya Air no longer is in operation
Berjaya Air has made travelling easier with a daily flight, which is a 1-hour 15-minute journey from Kuala Lumpur (Subang Airport) to Redang and from Singapore (Seletar Airport) to Redang on 48-seat Dash 7 aircraft for 1 hour 25 minutes. (Update: Berjaya Air no longer exists)
This is the most common way to get here as it generally takes about 4 to 5 hours’ drive from Kuala Lumpur to Terengganu via the East Coast Highway.
You are also advised to travel early in the day to avoid missing the ferry services from Shahbandar to Redang Island.
