This Berjaya Resort at Pulau Redang review is done purely out of my curiosity when I was on a work trip to this part of Malaysia. And to my surprise, this resort is also one of the most beautiful ones I have visited around here.

You should also know, locals would call the island Pulau Redang or just Redang and the island is the largest of all the islands on the east coast and located strategically next to Lang Tengah and the famous Perhentian Islands.

View of the beautiful beach at the resort

The Berjaya Beach Resort is really secluded and located at Teluk Dalam (Deep Bay) and is out of walking distance to any other resort, therefore, privacy is guaranteed here.

This is one of the main factors that families and couples like coming here, mainly due to the privacy they get at this beach resort.

Guests being transferred from the main ferry to the smaller boats

Once you make your way here via ferry, like I did, the ferry will stop you just outside the main beach area which is outside Pasir Panjang (Long Beach).

From there, smaller boats will come to pick you up and send you to whichever resort you book. The boatmen will ask you where you are headed and in the sea, you will be transferred to the allocated boats. together with all your luggage.

There is a small fee to pay these smaller shuttle boats. But the Berjaya has their own boat to welcome guest so check with your tour operator on this.

On arrival at the Berjaya Beach Resort, you will be dropped off at the plastic jetty which is floating on the water. Not to worry as this jetty is quite sturdy.

Walking in, you will see the beautiful colours of the turquoise water and the white sand beach of the Berjaya Resort. You will probably be thinking ‘Ahh… is this paradise?

berjaya-redang-resort-coconut-trees Berjaya Resort Pulau Redang Island ReviewBeautiful coconut palms

Not forgetting the beautiful swaying coconut trees that are over 50 feet high, you have come to one of the exclusive private resorts in the East Coast of Malaysia, minus the hundreds of people cramming the beaches.

Judging from the pictures I have taken, one might think I have added some colour to them, but I have not.

What you see is exactly what I and my trusty Canon camera saw. The skies were absolutely beautiful, so was the sand and sea.

At the Berjaya Resort, you will be seeing a lot of families who choose this resort as the main holiday destination.

Now I understand why people talk about this resort. For the privacy, exclusivity and the sheer beauty of the overall island getaway.

Unspoiled scenery at the resort

I cannot help thinking of how blue the skies were when I was there. The beach was perfect with proper holiday goers and no disturbances. Think it of as an isolated beach holiday.

Well, you can hire a boat and visit Long Beach if you choose to, but after coming here, I just wanted to stay here and be away from all that commercialism.

berjaya-redang-resort-sea-sports Berjaya Resort Pulau Redang Island ReviewSports activities at Berjaya Resort Redang

As for things to do here, they have a ton of activities available at Berjaya Resorts, so check with the resort on what you want to do.

The resort also has a 5-star dive centre who handles diving trips or even getting your diving certificate for armatures or advanced courses.

berjaya-redang-island-resort-overview Berjaya Resort Pulau Redang Island ReviewAmazing beach and skies

The beach is excellent as they have lovely beach huts with deck chairs and it is a private beach. So you can have your Mai Tai sent to you while you lie back, relax and read a good book.

One thing I must mention is that the Berjaya Resort Redang is built right at the end of a local Malay village so you will see some local children fishing or just playing around the beach and jetty area.

berjaya-redang-resort-boy-fishing Berjaya Resort Pulau Redang Island ReviewLocal village boy fishing

I saw this local Malay boy who was fishing at the plastic jetty and he had caught a Todak (Hound Needlefish) who likes to swim around jetties looking for smaller fish.

You may have seen them when you walk the local jetties. It was quite an average size if you ask me. I usually see the much smaller ones which are about 6 to 8 inches long.

berjaya-redang-resort-the-beach-restaurant Berjaya Resort Pulau Redang Island ReviewThe Beach Restaurant

The Beach Restaurant at the resort looks very nice even taught I did not try it. It is located in a separate building away from the main resort. But it is not too far too.

The resort is actually quite huge with a lot of areas to explore, and if you are bored of the main resort area by day 2, you can just go out the back and explore the local village (Kampung Ulu Dalam).

There is a local restaurant run by some local Malay people just when you exit the resort. They serve local basic Malay style dishes which you can try as an alternative to hotel food.

Overall, I find the resort very pro-family, meaning if you have a small or large family and would like a nice quiet holiday, the Berjaya Redang Resort would be the perfect place for you.

While here, I also saw several romantic couples who were here, possibly for the honeymoon or just a nice and quiet getaway from the hectic city.

Berjaya Redang Spa

For the Spa Lovers, there is the Berjaya Ayura Spa located at Teluk Siang which is south of the island and is on a cliff 140 feet above sea level.

This is one fantastic place to get pampered, too bad I did not try it and I also visited the spa without my camera on that day.

How to go to Berjaya Redang Resort?

Finally, there are two basic ways to get to Redang Island. One of them is Flying with Berjaya Air or the other which is to self-drive to Terengganu and taking a ferry to Redang Island.

Flights to Redang Island – *Update: Berjaya Air no longer is in operation

Berjaya Air has made travelling easier with a daily flight, which is a 1-hour 15-minute journey from Kuala Lumpur (Subang Airport) to Redang and from Singapore (Seletar Airport) to Redang on 48-seat Dash 7 aircraft for 1 hour 25 minutes. (Update: Berjaya Air no longer exists)

Daily flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) via Malaysia Airlines (MAS), AirAsia and Firefly to Kuala Terengganu Airport are also available. From the airport, you need to travel via taxi to the jetty to catch a ferry to the island.

Driving:
This is the most common way to get here as it generally takes about 4 to 5 hours’ drive from Kuala Lumpur to Terengganu via the East Coast Highway.

You are also advised to travel early in the day to avoid missing the ferry services from Shahbandar to Redang Island.

Stan, man, you got to pack up your bags and just go! No turning back 🙂

Ken, Laguna was really nice. I think I visited Laguna too. Will look up the pics.

MyChoice, thank you very much. I work from home and travel whenever I have the chance. If I had nothing on tomorrow, I would be somewhere out of KL. Anyway, most of my posts are backdated.

Rebecca, thanks you for your visit. I need a holiday again too, after last night.

Kelvin, it is really beautiful. Redang, Perhentian and Lang Tengah Islands have one of the best waters.

Annant, it is quite similar to Perhentian as well. Just that the Berjaya here is quite secluded and private.

hi, i was thinking of flying with Firefly. Is it troublesome from the airport to the jetty? Can they ferry me st to Berjaya resort or must i go thru another round of small ferries

comments user
Malaysia Asia

Hi there, if you are planning to stay at Berjaya then you should take the Berjaya Airlines. There is no ferries or anything. Just direct shuttle to the Resort from the airport.

Firefly has no flight to Redang Island or any of the East Coast islands.

Hello,

I've been thinking about a trip to one of the east coast islands of Malaysia, finally came down to 2 options, Redang or Perhentian.

I have some questions regarding that and would be great if you could help me:

1)How would you compare the beach and waters in these 2 islands? According to your photos, and other photos I've seen on the net, Redang looks more beautiful, with white white sands and azure sea…

2)Apparently the Teluk Dalam beach is the most beautiful beach in Redang, I can see from the warning photo that only Berjaya guests can berth at the floating jetty, but how about the beach? Can other travellers find their way by land to that beach?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Hello Parvin, thank you for the comment. Right now, the Berjaya Beach is a private beach only for the Berjaya Guests. So most boats will only take you there for site seeing. I've not heard about guest being chased away so I cannot be 100% sure.

Well, if you have a family, Berjaya is a sweet place to stay considering the slightly higher price compared to other resorts in Redang.

Perhentian does have some nice beaches too but it all depends what type of holiday maker you are, kids or no kids, party or relaxed holiday. My take – Family = Redang. Couple/Friends = Perhentian.

David

Thanks a lot David!
I guess I'll finally head up to Redang, and the main reason probably would be the fact that I can take a direct flight from Singapore! A bit short of time… .
Your photos of Redang are very inviting!
Happy travelling!
Cheers,
Parvin

Everything has been well documented and said by David Jr.

I was there with my family last week and it was a great experience.

All I want to add is Berjaya can arrange for pick up at Terrangganu airport to Redang and back.
