If you are a scuba diver, this is the main event you should attend, especially if you want to learn more about Malaysia’s diving industry. This event is also the best place to get diving equipment, as many dealers will have promotions during the expo. My previous articles on MIDE 2014 and MIDE 2013 are available.
Off-topic but relevant – On a very subjective side, divers will keep their money and wait for the dive expo to buy equipment due to the better prices and packages.

Speaking to one of the dive dealers in Kuala Lumpur, they have admitted that MIDE has made buyers wait for the event to make their purchases as they know they can get much better discounts and prices than walking into a shop and buying similar items.

It is similar to how the travel fairs in Malaysia have spoilt the industry, where people only wait for the Matta Fair 2015 to buy their packages.

As diving has grown tremendously over the last 10 years, there are many more diverse markets nowadays. Many new divers are looking into diving fashion, where they want to have premium or unique dive equipment that stands out and is practical.

Examples include the multi-coloured backpack Oxycheq BCD and DiveRite BCD or the imported multi-coloured regulator and BC Miflex Hoses, which can be matched for your coloured dive set.

Even for dive accessories and computers, a wide range is available from various distributors selling brands like Suunto D4i Novo, Mares, Hog, Edge, Aqualung, ScubaPro and Ikelite.

Specialized products like rebreathers are also the talk of divers, and prices have been dropping for these bubble-less breathing apparatuses due to technological advancement. Sidemount BCDs are also becoming popular with the new generation of leisure cave divers, whose prices are quite affordable.

Other highlights of the Mide Dive Expo are the many exotic and distant dive destinations around the region. These destinations were once very hard to access, but with the growth of budget airlines and routes, they are now easily reached with just one flight.

With easy access, dive operators can now sell destinations like Moalboal, Malapascua, Anilao, and Puerto Galera in the Philippines, Manado, Lombok, Raja Ampat, the Maldives, and many more.

Conclusion

Overall, if you are a diving tourist visiting Malaysia in June, you should visit this expo and exhibition in KL as you may always find something new or cheaper than in your own country. Most of the local divers and diving industry would be seen here, and this is also a great place to mingle and network at MIDE 2015.
