Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival Exhibition by David Hogan Jr
I’m excited to announce that I will be exhibiting my latest photography work at the Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival (KLPF) 2025, happening from 15–17 August at KL Gateway Mall, Kerinchi, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
This year marks a creative turning point in my journey as a photographer. For years, many have come to know my work through the lens of birds and wildlife — capturing fleeting moments in nature, the raw beauty of creatures in their natural habitat, and the patient pursuit of the perfect frame in often remote environments. It’s a genre that has significantly shaped my photographic identity.
However, for KLPF 2025, I’m stepping away from the familiar and venturing into uncharted creative territory. The work I’ll be showcasing this year represents a personal exploration into different genres — subjects and themes that are vastly different from my usual wildlife narratives. These new images were born out of experimentation, quiet observations, and a desire to see the world around me through a different lens — both literally and metaphorically.
Completed during the first quarter of 2025, this fresh body of work is the result of many introspective hours, countless attempts, and unexpected discoveries. It’s a collection that feels more personal, expressive, and in many ways, abstract. At times, the process was challenging — pushing me out of my comfort zone, away from telephoto lenses and into new perspectives that required not just different techniques, but a different mindset altogether.
As a photographer, I’ve always believed that creativity should never be confined to one subject or style. Sticking to a single niche may offer consistency, but it can also quietly limit the growth potential. Exploring unfamiliar genres helps rekindle creative energy, sharpen storytelling, and reignite that original passion that drew us to photography in the first place.
This exhibition, for me, is more than just a showcase — it’s a celebration of creative freedom, of taking risks, and embracing the evolution that comes with every click of the shutter. It’s my way of inviting viewers to see photography not as a fixed identity, but as a constantly evolving conversation between the artist and the world.
